The New Archive is a womenswear brand creating a buildable, stand out and effortless wardrobe. We go through a Q&A with founder and Langley alumni Millie Wykes.

What’s your background in the fashion industry?

"I completed a Fashion Buying and Brand Management Degree at Ravensbourne University London which lead me to get an intership at Odd Muse, a now global fashion brand. I joined the company 6 months into their journey and so got to be a part of the amazing journey. My role quickly moved into a full time position. My role was in product and design, I began as a design intern and left as Buying Assistant and Designer. "

Was there any element of your school life that helped get you ready for this enterprise?

"My love for fashion and the industry has always been apparent but my I was able to channel this into design while studying textiles at Langley. This is where I really fell in love with fabrics, shapes and creating concepts. I also attended a Empowering Women fair at Langley where I met a lady working as a Fashion Buyer. This is when I knew what I wanted to do. "

What is The New Archive? How did you come up with the idea?

"The New Archive is a womenswear brand creating a buildable, stand out and effortless wardrobe. The New Archive is the place where all my ideas, experiences, inspirations and feelings are stored and translated into designs that will stay forever. This is how a brand is built, through gut feelings, experiences and passions. "

What makes you different from other brands?

"My consumer no longer wants to shop at highstreet brands, she wants to move away from Zara. She doesn’t want to dress like everyone else. She wants a perfect combination of timeless style with a modern edge and pieces she will keep forever. The New Archive is creating a world where clothing is collectable and passed on. Where brands are so much more than just clothing. Our values, brand and ethos is what makes us different."

What is the biggest challenge you have faced to date?

"Working on my own and having to self-motivate even when it seems nothing is working is by far the hardest thing I have faced and will continue to face no matter how big the brand gets."

What are you ambitions for The New Archive in the future?

"I would love to continue building my community and be in a position to offer brand trips, more supper clubs and IRL events. My goal over the next year is to have a pop up in London which will one day become a permanent store. I have a whole list of things I want to see and do with The New Archive, it’s hard to just list a few."
