This afternoon, students across the school had the fantastic opportunity to speak to Tom Marfleet, Managing Director at Emsworth Yacht Harbour, during Working Lunch. Uniquely, the marina is employee owned, allowing Tom and his coworkers more opportunities and control over the operations and future of the business. Tom left Langley in 2007, having spent many years at the school and made lots of fun memories. It was nice for some of our newest students to compare modern life at Langley to when Tom attended, from food to uniform and funny stories. Along the way to his current position, Tom spent time travelling in France and Greece, following his passion for sailing through working abroad, which he recommended students should also consider doing. Tom did a degree in Geography, which he described as giving him many transferable skills which he still uses in his daily life, particularly given the variable nature of being Managing Director at the marina. Tom’s day-to-day working life changes all the time, with the rise in new and innovative technology and modern schemes promoting greener practices. Tom left the students with some very valuable advice on counting your successes, taking inspiration from those around you, and always considering how far you’ve come on your journey to where you are today. It was a pleasure to meet him and his family, and we wish him all the best for the future.
