What an exciting opportunity it was for our students to be able to speak to Fenella Jenkins today at Working Lunch. Fenella attended Langley from Year 7 until Sixth Form and left in 2019. She enjoyed being involved in music and drama and was House Captain for Beauchamp. Fenella then went on to study History at Queen Mary University of London and enjoyed speaking to students about living in London and the exciting opportunities that moving to a city can bring. Toward the end of her degree, Fenella decided that she would love to pursue a career in Film and TV and so started by doing Extras work. She described finding a way into the career sector as one of the most challenging parts, but after securing some smaller roles in Locations work, Fenella quickly made connections in the industry and has now been working full-time as an Assistant Director. In this role, she tends to the Director’s needs, as well as managing cast and logistics. This exciting career has allowed Fenella to work on many well-known scripted series and films, such as the upcoming HBO's Harry Potter, The Batman: Part II, Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and Mobland, working with some famous faces and for big companies such as Netflix and Amazon Prime. Our students were also very intrigued by the many roles required for a successful shoot, with crews of up to 700 people, and the different locations that Fenella has filmed at. She described the many stages that a film or series goes through, and the difference between scripted and unscripted shows. Fenella was a delight to host, and seemed very passionate about her job. I’m sure she has inspired some of our students to pursue a similar career in the future. We wish her all the best for the future.
